6 Killer Apps of Prosperity

Brilliant talk from Nial Ferguson.

Over the past few centuries, Western cultures have been very good at creating general prosperity for themselves. Historian Niall Ferguson asks: Why the West, and less so the rest? He suggests half a dozen big ideas from Western culture — call them the 6 killer apps — that promote wealth, stability and innovation. And in this new century, he says, these apps are all shareable. (Recorded at TEDGlobal 2011, July 2011, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Duration: 20:20.)

Niall Ferguson, MA, D.Phil., is the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History at Harvard University and William Ziegler Professor at Harvard Business School. He is a resident faculty member of the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies. He is also a Senior Research Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford University, and a Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Let’s talk about it. But I want to hear your serious thoughts, realistic, not your image who we think we are.

Such a shot to the junk to see that the west (US) has lost it’s edge of work ethic, which is why we rose to the place of power in the world. Have we lost that eye of the tiger? (Rocky) I believe there are some of us that revel in our brilliance and flex such gifts we’ve been blessed with. But as a society? We are proud no doubt…

One of my favorite sayings is “Do they know who we think we are”. Is there some truth to that with our current perspective? Don’t get me wrong, I love LOVE LOVE this country. We’re bruisers and rally like no other. We take the punches and keep going. Have we’ve been champion of the world for too long? Has the belt has been taken for granted.? We must rumble. We must restrategize our approach…our mindset.
